Blue Flower (antique)
Blue Flower is one of the two designs for which Royal Copenhagen is well known. Since it’s introduction in 1780 variations of the pattern have been in continuous production.
The pattern, also known as Blå Blomster, consists of a single bouquet of skillfully but loosely painted flowers in the center with small single flowers scattered.
In modern times (20th century) the pattern has been applied to three different shapes: the braided shape, that has round shapes with a rim that appears braided, the curved shape, that also has braided rims but scalloped edges and the angular shape, which has no braiding but a sectioned design.
As Blue Flower had been produced for roughly 120 years before this distinction there are also many antique designs that do not fit any of these three categories.
Blue Flower is always made of very high quality crisp white porcelain with hand painted underglaze cobalt blue decorations. It is the perfect set for a slightly understated but very elegant dinner table.
