About Aluminia / Royal Copenhagen – Tranquebar – Lunch Plate
In 1883 Royal Copenhagen was bought by Aluminia, an earthenware factory that was also based in Copenhagen.
Up to 1969 the company produced its earthenware under the Aluminia brand and its porcelain under the Royal Copenhagen brand. After 1969 the Aluminia brand was dropped and earthenware was produced with a Royal Copenhagen Fajance mark.
Tranquebar is Aluminia’s most well known design. It was designed in 1912 and in production until 2003.
It is made from a hard and durable earthenware called flintware. Flintware is also known for it’s greyish colour.
All Tranquebar is hand painted. This makes it very artistic and collectible.
