A Masons Ironstone Vista Lidded Jar.
About Mason’s Ironstone – Paynsley Pattern – Lidded Jar
Mason’s was founded in 1806 by Miles Mason, who amassed a small fortune in importing Asian ceramics in the decade before.
The brand’s breakthrough and claim to fame happened in 1813 when Miles’s third son Charles James Mason received a patent for a novel way of creating hardened earthenwork. The method was labeled ‘Ironstone’, which ironically contains neither iron nor stone.
The word Ironstone became synonymous with Mason’s and although the ownership changed numerous times in the past 200 years production always continued.
Mason’s was acquired by Wedgwood in 1973.
Next to many famous dinnerware designs Masons also produced numerous other items like thimbles, jars and collectibles.
